Relying solely on the low-tech tools of traditional screen-printing, Berlin-based duo Gfeller+Hellsgård explore the possibilities of informal “Pop Abstraction” in a context of mechanized reproduction. Triangles, rectangles, squares, marks and intersecting lines are the key elements at the core of their practice, a practice that has gradually moved away from the figurative representation of narrative scenes to focus on the visual impact of warm-colors and superimposed forms. Gfeller+Hellsgård’s mastery of screen-printing has enabled them to experiment with the accidents related to the medium’s unpredictability, allowing fate work its magic on the print.
