J-P Mika

Born in: Central Africa

J-P Mika (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, 1980) showcases his outstanding draftsmanship and acute observations of the Kinshasa streets through painting. Influenced by role models Chéri Chérin and Chéri Samba, Mika's pictures serve as a visual commentary on Congolese society and the Sapeurs, much in the style of Samba. He recently began forming a style all his own, simplifying his compositions by using colorful fabrics as a background. His paintings have been exhibited at Somerset House, London (2017); Grand Palais, France (2016); Palexpo, Geneva (2015).
