J-P Mika

Born 1980, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Lives and works in Kinshasa. J-P Mika take an interest in drawing and ornamentation since his earliest age and apply at the painting department of the “Académie des Beaux Arts” in Kinshasa [Kinshasa Academy of Fine Art]. He frequents also ARAP, The Popular Art Research Studio created by the artist Chéri Chérin who became his “Master”. There, he improve his skills and became a member of APPO, The Popular Painters Society. In 2004, he establishes his own Studio and named it EBA, The Fine Arts Events. His work is marked by the influence of Chéri Chérin and Chéri Samba he considered them as models. Mika depict the Congolese society, the Sapeurs, adding sometimes commentary in the way of Chéri Samba.
