ALUÁN ARGÜELLES

Painter Aluán Argüelles (Havana, 1982) broaches subjects of migration and economic uncertainty. His approach to migration is broad, encompassing such spheres as communication, whether from personal relationships or bases of power. Argüelles' paintings - formed with meticulously stroked oil on canvas - are of moments held in suspension. The blurred effect is intentional; Argüelles trivializes time by emphasizing the lack of clarity in both future and past. His original artwork focuses on finding the point where the two converge. Argüelles' work has been shown at Espacio Abierto Gallery, Havana (2015); Servando Gallery, Havana (2010); Francis Colburn Gallery, Vermont (2009).
