‘Bones’ incorporates dance and dominoes, reflecting popular culture and also a game that Rhode played growing up in Cape Town as a child. The chalk and charcoal-like nature of the depiction is a nod to one of Rhode’s early mediums when he created performative wall drawings to reclaim public space.
