Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari first paired as photographers in 2009, creating a prescient editorial for W magazine’s annual Art Issue. Inspired by the result of their collaboration, the duo founded Toiletpaper, a magazine born out of their shared passion for making unique and surprising images. Working together, Cattelan and Ferrari create photographs that fuse the vernacular of commercial image making with witty tableaux and surrealism. The result - Toiletpaper - is a bi-annual publication that is itself a work of art. Characterized by high production value and sharp humor, the images produced by Cattelan and Ferrari are instantly recognizable and reflective of their respective positions as renowned artist and acclaimed photographer.

The duo have produced their trademark photographs for T Magazine, Dazed and Wallpaper*, among others. Their commercial clients include Kenzo, for whom four campaigns have been realized under the creative direction and photography of Cattelan and Ferrari.

MAURIZIO CATTELAN & PIERPAOLO FERRARI

Born in: Europe

Italian artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari form an unstoppable production duo whose pictures have taken the art world by storm since their pairing in 2009. Driven by an intention to produce images that demand attention, Cattelan and Ferrari have defined a unique approach that fuses commercial commentary with lush surrealism. They founded Toiletpaper magazine, a publication that runs on the same foundation as their original artwork: singular, surprising images. Collectively, their works have been shown at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Saatchi Gallery.
