GUO FENGYI

Born in: Asia

Guo Fengyi (Xi'an, China, 1942 - 2010) produced elaborate, detailed drawings representative of her own phantasmagorical visions. These visions began to manifest after the artist began practicing Qi Gong as an alleviation for the severe bouts of arthritis that plagued her early adult life. She first produced her pictures on the back pages of calendars, then rice paper, until she settled on working with five-meter long canvases, using Indian ink and brushes. Fengyi's works are a flurry of delicate lines, forming faces and figures of dragons, phoenixes, and ghosts. Her original artwork has been exhibited at the Andrew Edlin Gallery, New York City (2015); Long March Space, Beijing (2013).
