THOMAS HIRSCHHORN

Born in: Europe

Thomas Hirschhorn (Bern, Switzerland, 1957) is a Paris-based artist who offers alternative models for rumination through his art prints, installations, and pictures. He spent much of the 1980's as part of Grapus, a group of communist graphic artists passing political and cultural themes through impromptu filters. Hirschhorn's choice of using everyday materials such as plastic wrap, duct tape, cardboard, and foil stems from his aversion from matter with plus-value. He has been exhibited at Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; Museu d'Art Contemporani, Barcelona; Kunsthaus Zürich; Art Institute of Chicago; and Wiener Secession, Vienna.
