HECTOR PRATS

Hector Prats was born in 1987. He is Spanish artist whose practice generally involves the discipline of drawing. When not drawing however, he is trying to bend cutlery with his mind. Needles to say, without success. In the artist’s own words: “As a contemporary oracle, Internet provides a vast source of information and images, of which I appropriate and classify according to my own conceptual categories. This exercise of compilation and classification is the starting point of my creative process, where I create connections between distant images and concepts related to my interests. In my work, motifs and visual clichés linked to subjects such as science, knowledge or the idea of progress in civilisations collide with the reverse: that magical, irrational, absurd or inexplicable, setting dialectical narratives tinged with a dystopian atmosphere and timeless.”

A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia and the VŠUP in Prague, he has participated in several international exhibitions, such as the Mostra da 17th Bienal de Cerveira, at Carpe Diem Art and Research in Lisbon and II Moscow International Biennale for Young Art in Moscow, amongst others.
