Yaara Oren is a young Israeli artist who works in painting, photography and ceramics. Yaara, born in 1982 in Israel, lives and creates in Tel Aviv.
In her works, Oren aims to reflect parts of everyday reality, expressed by a subjective, internal experience. Oren views the painting medium as a language that is constantly explored and developed in her work. In her paintings, Oren traces the way a color “encounters” another and the way lines intertwine with color blocking, while exploring different brush strokes and endless pictorial possibilities.
Content-wise, Oren draws inspiration from her immediate environment: The immigrants’ neighbourhood she lives in, her home, different images she stumbles across on the internet, personal belongings and documented memories. Over the past few years, Oren has gradually neglected the use of imagery in her work in order to deepen a formalist abstract study of the painting medium and to focus her artistic work on inner views and thoughts, resembling a visual stream of consciousness. Her paintings mainly depict a state of mind, an atmosphere, functioning as “lucid dreams” of everyday life.
Education
Oren graduated B.Ed in 2009 from “Hamidrasha School of Art” with an “Excellence in Art” grant and currently works as a professor at “Seminar Ha’kibutzim” Academy. Oren has held four solo exhibitions: “Garden Wall” at Rosenbach Contemporary Gallery, Jerusalem (2016); “Exotica Park”,Rosh Hanikra Gallery (2014); “Carnival Dream Cruise”,Ha’Agaf Gallery, Haifa (2013) and “Pudding, at Hanina Gallery, Tel Aviv (2011) .
