Davood Koochaki (Iran, 1939) produces pencil drawings of phantasmagorical creatures on cardboard. After running away from home at the age of twelve, he spent most of his career as an automobile mechanic, only beginning to sketch on scrap paper, phonebooks, and his children's notebooks around the age of 40. Koochaki applied renewed focus to his art during his retirement and is currently among the most well-known Iranian exports. The artist mainly produces bleak, richly detailed pencil sketches presenting fantastic, extra-dimensional beasts. His works have been featured in Outsider Art From Iran, part of Dastan's Annual Outsider Art Exhibition.
