Jairo Alfonso (Cuba) is an independent artist whose paintings, installations, drawings, and videos deal with material culture. For Alonso, objects have several lives; this comes from his upbringing in Cuba where consumerist appetites are done away with in mass due to scarcity. His recent large-scale drawings depict enormous piles of objects seemingly bound together by an unseen gravitational center. Alfonso's original artwork has been shown at Bakehouse Art Complex, Miami (2016); Galería Estudio Artizar. Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain (2015); Estudio Beneficencia, Madrid (2013).
