Pavel Acosta (Cuba, 1990) is a Miami-based independent artist working through painting and photography. His pictures are branded by an application of peeled paint layers taken from decaying street material. The resulting textured paintings often reflect his views on Cuba's defunct economy, sometimes through the inclusion of iconic subjects from art history. These characters are made irreversibly mobile by Acosta's layered approach. His works have been shown at The National Gallery of Art, The MET, and the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis.
