August Walla (Klosterneuberg, Austria, 1936 - 2001) was an Austrian outsider artist whose manic paintings and drawings have granted him distinction as an Art Brut producer. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 16 and would go on to spend long spans of his life in a psychiatric ward. He would fill volumes of pages with writing, continuing on the walls of his room when the paper would run out. The media of writing and drawing are merged in Walla's original artwork, which has been shown in important public and private Art Brut collections.
